Reflections of the New Covid 19 Pandemic in the Brazilian Prison System

The theme addressed is to analyze the impacts of the new coronavirus pandemic on the fragile and collapsed Brazilian prison system, which has several problems, including overcrowding and lack of basic health care, factors that make prisons vulnerable to proliferations throughout the type of disease, in particular the coronavirus, due to overcrowding in prisons and the impossibility of social distance within the cells, which puts the lives of inmates and servers at constant risk, with some of the problems reflecting poor administration and lack of government support. The study verifies which measures are being adopted by the public authorities to minimize the impacts of the pandemic on the prison population and on employees working in prisons, as well as being treated under the focus of human dignity and the Unconstitutional State of Things. It was possible to conclude that the existing chaos within the Brazilian prison system is the result of a series of measures adopted by Brazilian policy, which has remained silent over the years, through the violation of fundamental rights and with extreme repressive measures adopted by public security, making thus, with a growth in the prison population generating a collapse in the prison system, since the State is no longer able to provide decent conditions for inmates to serve their sentence, due to the alarming levels of violations of prisoners' rights and fundamental rights affirmed by our Magna Carta and specific laws, as well as the positioning of our courts.
